Computer Viruses - the basics14 Aug 2010
In its simplest terms a virus is a computer code class period?
A computer virus almost always repeats itself and spreads by attaching to other files. Viruses can be made to accommodate a number of harmful things to disrupt any computer files to overwrite networks. It may even be laying dormant, without you knowing it’s there and then attack at the right time, as in the midst of downloading a large file or writing a long report.
Even if you can do to open a certain date, sitting like a time bomb until the time comes. As you can see that this can be annoying at least.
Not in all different types of viruses here because there are many more do every day in some damp basement by the Dark Lord.
However, as the virus came to know many, opening e-mails, I would like to mention here some basic concepts:
Never open attachments if you are sure of who she is and she is safe.
Some mail programs do not even ask if you trust and commitment if you are sure you want to do. The software on your computer can also scan attachments for viruses.
The danger is that when you open the attachment, the virus can attach to your hard drive and damage files. Not only that, you can search your saved e-mail to send to your friends, business partners and one on the list, which masks the message to look like a legitimate objective for you. You can have an attachment too and when opened infects other computers.
Many people like to download music, video, games or other programs from different sites. If a site to this question before and the confidence that can be quite sure, but if you are unsure you can always run a virus scan the download before installing. (You should check if the antivirus program that comes with the system procedures). This security measure is necessary because some downloads may contain virtues, spyware or adware - these last two may collect personal information, think about your surfing habits and your spam e-mail with unwanted advertising. Some sites provide a readme file that displays technical information about the download (if you want to talk about technology) and contact information.
The best sites that offer downloads will test and explore all there software programs before going online with it. As a last resort, you can search the Internet for more comments on that particular company to see if others have been burned.
This may seem scary to some, but the fact is nobody in the world with a computer should look over their shoulders for hidden attacks when working with the Internet.
However, there are certain things you should do to prevent viruses from attacking your computer:
* Download the latest list of virus definition files (which indicates your computer what to look for) used for anti-virus program.
* Check if your ISP has tools to block viruses before they reach your mailbox.
* Always back up your computer on a CD-R or other means in case of loss or all of your data.
* You can check for viruses before installing the software. (Consult your system manual for the procedure)
* Set the security settings at the highest level.
* Check the settings on your browser and e-mail.
Doing these things at least every week will help keep your computer up to date virus protection and running safely.
